Los Altos High School is located in the Silicon Valley, the world's technology capital. Los Altos High School, built on the site of an orchard in 1954, is one of two high schools in the Mountain View ?Los Altos Union High School District. Los Altos High School, along with its sister school, Mountain View High School, serves a rich diversity of students living in both Los Altos and Mountain View. The district is situated between the cities of San Francisco and San Jose in the northwest corner of Silicon Valley within four miles of Stanford University. Initially, Los Altos High School served the mostly white, middle to upper class populations of Los Altos and Los Altos Hills. In 1982, the district closed its third and oldest high school, which was located in the heart of downtown Mountain View, and established new attendance boundaries that cut from the hill communities of Los Altos in the west through the valley community of Mountain View to the San Francisco Bay in the east.
